The Double Tap List: The Best of #Cider on Instagram (Jan. 20–26)

Happy Friday, #cidergeeks! Let’s all say it together: “T-G-I-F!”

The arrival of Friday means it’s time for a new version of The Double Tap List, our roundup of the most notable and like-worthy cider content on Instagram. The #ciderworld was full of activity this week, with cider tests, a mac-and-cheese weekend and tap takeovers!

Check out some of our favorites from January 20–26:

Last Saturday, McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (say that 10x fast!) hosted its 2nd Annual McMenamins Wassail Cider Fest in Hillsboro, Oregon. In attendance were 19 cideries, all ages were welcome to join in on the fun, and admission was free. Admission to the day’s event included a commemorative tasting glass. Participating cideries included 1859 Cider Company, Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider, Seattle Cider Company and McMenamins, themselves! The day was filled with cider sampling, orchard toasts, live music and tasty festival food. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves! (Snap via @portlandbeerfestivals)

Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard

Why is it always “Mac & Cheese Day” or “Tots Day” at a cidery when I can’t be there?! Well, last weekend, Fly Creek Cider Mill had three special mac-and-cheese dishes available for guests to sample. Just envision it: sharp cheddar oozing together with crispy bacon pieces in a pile of soft spirals noodles. Pair that with Fly Creek’s Original Hard Cider, and you can basically call it a weekend! For any person who dared to complain about the special mac-and-cheese flavors, there was a basic version available, as well. I’m not sure who would be complaining about extra sharp cheddar, though!

Three Sheets Craft Beer Bar

That’s what we do all of the time — we enjoy cider and we just know things. (Disclaimer: We don’t know absolutely everything). One thing we do know, however, is that Three Sheets Craft Beer Bar in Dublin, California hosted a mini tap takeover this past Wednesday evening and it sounds like it was delicious! Guests could indulge in four selections, available in both draft and bottle variety: 2 Towns‘ Made Marion and Bright Cider, Tieton Ciderworks‘ Cherry and Ace Premium Craft Cider‘s Pineapple all made the cut for the cider list. That sounds like the perfect flight of cider to me!

As usual, I like to find not only the funny #cider Instagram posts, but also the posts that are quite fascinating. If you are interested in the science behind the fruit that is the basis for cider and you just happen to be in Germany, then you need to go view the Pomology Exhibit at the Museum Wiesbaden. The exhibition is featured in the Natural History Collection, where the exhibits focus on the variety of nature in all forms. The apple, with its symbolism varying from fertility to sin, is of particular interest in the study of pomology. This exhibit runs through January 28th. And, if you do happen to actually go to this, please let us know what you thought of it! (Snap via @kiezbaum.)

BONUS!!

Dear @candisekatt,

I need this hat.
