Explore Wassail Through the Eyes (and Lens!) of Photographer Bill Bradshaw

Wassail 2016

Wassailing is a traditional British folk celebration where people gather on Twelfth Night (January 17), which tends to be one of the coldest nights of the year, to give thanks for the bountiful harvest and give back to the largest and oldest apple tree in the orchard. Revelers return some of the cider to the tree by pouring the drink around the base and raising a toast.

British photographer Bill Bradshaw documented this recent event and compiled an interesting gallery on his website. The night was filled with music, dancing, good food and of course an array of ciders.
