Join Penn State Extension for a Hard Cider Producers Tour of the Finger Lakes (Dec. 5)

Are you a hard cider producer or apple grower who is looking to learn more about the industry and grab insight from some knowledgeable industry pros? Then, be sure to get your registration in this week for the Hard Cider Producers Only Tour of the Finger Lakes set for December 5.

This Penn State Extension one-day cider tour will take you on orchard field walks and cidery tours in the Finger Lakes region and include the following itinerary featuring local industry professionals:

  • Eric Shatt, Cornell Orchards manager and owner of Redbyrd Orchard Cider, featuring holistic cider orchard management techniques through a field walk and cidery tour
  • Ian Merwin, Horticulture Professor Emeritus with Cornell University and owner of Black Diamond Farm, who is not only making cider with his cider apple varieties but selling a select amount of them successfully at retail farmers markets
  • Finger Lakes Cider House will host tour participants for a behind-the-scenes look at a collaborative cider tap room, hosting five cideries, as well as the grounds for Good Life Cider at Good Life Farm, a small diversified organic operation that grows and presses their own cider on site
  • Bellwether Hard Cider, the oldest cidery in the Finger Lakes, producing 10 varieties of cider
  • Additional mystery cider stop to be announced soon!

The tour will run from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and will depart from and return to Penn State Extension Columbia County in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. The cost is $200 per person and includes transportation, educational sessions, exclusive tours led by cidery owners, cider house lunch, brewery dinner and snacks along the way.
