Representing a platform for news, I wanted to take a moment to bring back to light what some might consider some old news. Most of us do not live in this section of the world, so what is happening on the big island in Hawaii might not be in the forefront of our minds. The eruption of the Kilauea Volcano happened nearly a month ago, yet there are so many residents still displaced and dealing with the destruction that the flowing lava has created. Ola Brew Co. hosted an awesome event a couple of weeks ago, where they collected non-perishable supplies for displaced residents. There are still so many people in need of help and being the awesome cider community that you are, I know so many of you will step up to the plate. Check out the Red Cross’s website for an updated status of the events in Hawaii and see how you can contribute to the relief effort. A big “mahalo” to Ola Brew Co. for helping with the relief efforts!
Good news! Buskey Cider, located in Richmond, Virginia, has announced the upcoming grand opening of its second location! Located on the bay in Cape Charles, VA, the opening will be happening on Saturday, June 16, from noon to 9 p.m. Join the crew in their satellite taproom to dive into a glass of their RVA Cider which, if you haven’t had the pleasure of sampling yet, is a glass of just pure, sweet Virginia flavor! Stay tuned for more news on what this fun day will have in store, and, if you’re in the area, be sure to mark the date on your calendar!

Who wouldn’t want a huge, slobbery smile to help pep you up and get you through a grueling 5k race?! Join Team Bantam for a very patriotic race at the Cambridge 5k Freedom Run Race this Sunday, June 3rd and wind your way through the streets of East Cambridge, Massachusetts. Registration includes a lot of goodies, including a race shirt plus access to a roof-deck party! Drinks will be supplied by Notch Brewing, Somerville Brewing and, of course, Bantam Cider. Proceeds benefit local Cambridge charities, including East Cambridge Business Association and Cambridge Camping. Come out for a great cause, a great run and, finally, an amazing post-race cider!
All of us at Cider Culture would like to take a moment to thank all of the men and women who have served and still serve our great country. Memorial Day represents more than just good times barbecuing or great drinks with friends — it’s a day to remember how lucky we all are to be able to do what we are free to do each and every day. Thank you, Swilled Dog, for this great post on Memorial Day!
Dory!! It’s amazing how, when cider is involved, we forget past drinking experiences like how Dory forgets, well, everything.
